Small kitchen repairs are welcome. Describe whether the item sticks, sags, rubs, drops off its track, closes unevenly or has lost its soft-close action. Include the number of affected doors or drawers and any recent adjustment or part replacement.

We assess the moving component, its fixings and the cabinet that supports it. A failed hinge, a damaged fixing point and a distorted box need different solutions. The aim is to define the repair needed without assuming the kitchen must be replaced.

SEKTION, AKURUM or another IKEA system?

System identification comes before selecting parts. Interior photos, hardware markings, article numbers and an approximate purchase date can help. IKEA’s Canadian identification guidance distinguishes AKURUM and SEKTION by their internal hole patterns; this is a useful clue to check against the rest of the cabinet.

All IKEA systems are in scope for assessment and service, including legacy kitchens. That does not guarantee a discontinued part is available or that a current hinge, runner or front will fit. We check the specific assembly rather than applying a SEKTION solution to every IKEA cabinet.

IKEA drawer and MAXIMERA repair assessment

A drawer that will not close can have an obstruction, loose or damaged mounting, incorrect alignment or a problem with the runner or closing mechanism. We identify the drawer assembly and inspect it with the box and front. MAXIMERA is relevant only when that is the system present.

IKEA product documentation identifies MAXIMERA drawers with integrated soft closing. A failed soft-close action does not identify the failed component on its own. We review travel, seating, fixings and visible damage before deciding whether adjustment, a compatible component or replacement of the affected assembly is appropriate.

Send a view of the drawer partly open, the runner and front attachments, and any accessible label. Do not remove a loaded or unstable drawer just to obtain a photo. The system and dimensions need checking before a replacement runner or drawer is selected.

IKEA doors, UTRUSTA hinges and fixing points

A door that drops or rubs may need alignment, a suitable replacement hinge or work on its fixing area. UTRUSTA is a family of fittings, not proof that any UTRUSTA hinge will suit the opening. The hinge arrangement, mounting plate, door and cabinet must be identified together.

Include photos with the door open, the hinge and plate visible, and the loose or damaged area in close-up. Opening angle, internal drawers and adjacent doors can affect the required fitting. We check the application against the relevant product information rather than selecting by appearance alone.

If a screw no longer holds, the surrounding material and support must be assessed. New hardware does not repair a failed attachment area by itself. A damaged door or box may change the solution from adjustment to a broader repair or partial replacement.

Legacy IKEA repairs and part compatibility

Older IKEA kitchens can still be assessed for functional repair. We identify what can remain, the condition of mounting areas and the requirements of any proposed part. Current product availability and an exact finish match are not assumed.

An appearance update is a different decision from repairing a drawer or hinge. IKEA Canada states that its current door models are not replacements for AKURUM cabinets. Use the IKEA front-replacement section of refacing when new doors or drawer fronts are the goal; new cabinet boxes and additions belong to installation.

What the repair scope includes

The agreed scope identifies the components, adjustments, compatible replacement items and any work on fixings or cabinet material. Several faults can be assessed together. Box replacement, appearance-led refacing, countertops and service connections are separate tasks unless expressly included.

We explain when photos are insufficient and measurements or a site review are needed. The estimate reflects quantity, diagnosis, access, condition and required components. We do not promise a particular part, visit count or completion time before the repair is understood.

Send a full-cabinet view, the symptom area, an inside view and hardware close-ups. Include article numbers, receipts or instructions if available, plus the number of items and the Ottawa address or neighbourhood. Crop personal information from receipts; a part number or product reference is usually enough.

Photos and system details are helpful but optional. Describe the problem if you cannot reach the hardware or do not know the model. We will identify the next step without asking for access to your IKEA account.
