AKURUM or SEKTION: Which IKEA Kitchen Do You Have?

Look inside a cabinet and compare its hole pattern with IKEA’s identification guidance: AKURUM has a single row near the edge, while SEKTION has a double row. Check labels, receipts and hardware as well. IKEA replaced AKURUM with SEKTION in Canada in 2015, but an installation date alone does not prove which system or replacement parts you have.

Photograph inside the box

Show the cabinet side, rows of holes, hinge mounting and a full interior view. Also photograph article labels or a readable receipt if available, keeping personal details out. Door finishes can have changed after installation, and repaired or mixed kitchens may need identification unit by unit.

Separate the cabinet from its fittings

A drawer label identifies a component, not necessarily every box in the kitchen. Record the drawer, hinge, plate and front connection separately. SEKTION, MAXIMERA and UTRUSTA refer to different components; an IKEA name on one part does not make all current accessories fit an older kitchen.

Check legacy replacements before ordering

IKEA’s current-door compatibility guidance excludes AKURUM. A legacy repair therefore needs an actual part assessment or a separately verified replacement approach. A supplier’s made-to-order front must be checked for dimensions and drilling. Do not assume that a current front can be made compatible by moving a hinge.

Send the same evidence for other IKEA systems

Renovation1 assesses all IKEA kitchen systems, including AKURUM, SEKTION and other identified systems. If yours differs from the comparison, provide labels and clear views instead of applying SEKTION instructions. System support does not mean that original parts remain available or that components interchange between ranges.
