Does My Subfloor Need Levelling Before New Flooring?
Direct answer
Maybe. A floor can be out of level yet sufficiently flat for a particular product, or look level while having local humps and dips that must be corrected. The chosen laminate or LVP instructions set the preparation requirements. Check substrate soundness, moisture concerns and transitions before installation; do not assume a universal levelling tolerance or that an underlay will solve every low spot.

Measure the floor that exists
A straightedge and site measurements reveal local ridges, dips and transitions to adjoining rooms. The installation plan should use the exact product’s current instructions, including its permitted substrate and underlay.
Prepare before the new surface
Check for loose panels, damaged material, moisture indicators and changes in floor height at doors and trim. Quick-Step’s laminate guidance, for its own products, calls for smoothing uneven areas and fastening loose wooden-subfloor parts. It is not a universal LVP specification.

We would identify the product and installation method, map high and low areas, inspect exposed substrate, and plan thresholds and door clearances. The quote should separate ordinary preparation from any substrate repair found after removal.
